Kick-Ass is a comic book series about teenage outcasts who moonlight as superheroes. The main character, Dave Lizewski, is played by Aaron Johnson, and the series follows him as he battles crime and makes a name for himself as a kickass. Along the way, he meets characters such as Big Daddy and his Ax-Crazy daughter Hit Girl. He also meets the mysterious Red Mist. The comic series is published by Marvel and was originally serialized in CLiNT magazine.
Kick-Ass was released in the United Kingdom on 26 March 2010 and in the U.S. on 16 April 2010. While generating controversy for its use of profanity and violence, the movie received positive reviews from critics and achieved cult status after its DVD release. The movie was so successful that it spawned two sequels, the first of which was released in August 2013. Both sequels starred Johnson, Mintz-Plasse, and Moretz. Vaughn later announced his intention to reboot the franchise in 2018.
